According to Apple's release notes, this iOS 17.5.1 update includes a fix for an issue that has made users extremely uncomfortable in the past, which could cause images to reappear in the gallery. Photos even long after they are deleted.

“This update provides important fixes and resolves a rare issue where database-corrupted photos could reappear in the Photos library even after they were deleted,” Apple posted download in the update description statement.

Back last week, a number of complaints were reported by users stating that both iPhones and iPads were able to display old photos that they had permanently deleted. These images suddenly appeared after updating to iOS 17.5.
