Responding to Apple Intelligence, Pixel 9 integrates Google AI with a controversial feature

Pixel 9 will integrate Google AI and officially launch next August.

Google Pixels are known for their on-device AI features. Google has created unique, useful features, and it's no surprise that the upcoming Google Pixel 9 series will bring even more sophisticated AI experiences.

According to Android Authority, the next generation of Pixels could come with new “Google AI” features, including one that looks a bit like Microsoft’s controversial Recall tool. The feature saves and processes useful details from your screenshots, and lets you search through them.

However, unlike Microsoft's Recall feature that automatically captures everything you're doing on your device, Google's feature only handles screenshots taken manually.

Even though Google AI only uses manual screenshots from users, it can still raise security concerns based on how the information is processed and stored.

Additionally, Google AI will include a mix of new and existing features. Circle to Search is already available on Pixels and even some third-party devices, while Gemini will be available on all Android phones.

Alongside Pixel Screenshot, Android Authority also reports that a new photo editing feature called “Add Me” will be part of the Google AI toolset. This feature can let you add a person to a group photo, going beyond Best Take’s existing face-editing capabilities.

Add Me shows that Google wants to lean more into the idea that what matters is what you want in the photo, not what you're shooting, and AI can absolutely solve these problems.

Another new feature is Studio, which is similar to the previously announced Creative Assistant. It will be integrated into the Pixel's screenshot editing app, allowing for the creation of stickers and other images.

However, the images suggest that the app could do more than just create stickers. It could be an all-in-one AI image generator, similar to Apple's Image Playground.

It's worth mentioning that Google has been working on its own image and even video creation models. Users can get an early taste of similar features in the ImageFX app - allowing anyone to try out the Google Imagen 2 model, and VideoFX (currently in beta) will expand the creative possibilities to the video realm.

Google hinted at new AI features for the Pixel 9 in a teaser for its surprise hardware event on August 13. So far, the Pixel 9 is rumored to come in three sizes with a redesigned camera design that ditches the horizontal bar in favor of an oval camera modules.
