California-based specialty insurance broker Alliant Insurance Services has expanded its presence in New England through the acquisition of Melcher & Prescott, a long-time independent insurance agency in Laconia, New Hampshire.
Founded in 1862, Melcher & Prescott provides commercial insurance, employee benefits and personal, life and health insurance to businesses and individuals across New England and surrounding areas.
DMS Insurance Holdings, LLC, led by D. Michael Sherman, took an ownership stake in Melcher & Prescott in November 2017. Sherman, who has served as chairm
an and chief executive officer, commented that joining Alliant gives the agency access to the “broader resources and specialized expertise of a leading national broker.”
Going forward, Melcher & Prescott will operate as Alliant Insurance Services.
Irvine, California-based national broker Alliant offers insurance, risk management, reinsurance and employee benefits. The Melcher & Prescott acquisition is its first in New Hampshire. Elsewhere in New England, it has four offices in
Connecticut, three in Maine and two in Massachusetts. Alliiant is a majority employee-owned company.
Buyers from the finance and tech industries are driving demand and many people are paying all in cash, Martin said. Official ground breaking happens this week, marked by a party Thursday evening.

“The economy of Miami has changed at the top end almost beyond recognition,” Martin said. “People are just beginning to understand what that means.”
Martin cited two large office projects in Brickell as drivers for a five-year “runway” of activity in the area that’s benefiting sales. Banco Santander SA is construct
ing a tower at 1401 Brickell Avenue while Citadel has started work at their site just a few blocks south for its headquarters. Both are expected to be around 50 floors high and attract varied tenants.
