In February, the Gills claimed $30,000 damage from wind and hail, including creased shingle

It turned out that the couple had made very similar claims just months ago, records show.

“The investigation showed that Gill has been involved in two other claims of this nature

Karmpreet Gill told a Homesite adjuster that an ice storm had caused the damage and

her husband had seen climbed on the roof and had missing shingles.

“She was asked about the prior claim with State Farm Insurance for the same type of damage

age on October 7, 2025,” an investigator wrote in her arrest warrant. “She denied any knowledge of

the payout and if any repairs were made. She then said her husband made the repairs…”

The Gills, which a judge determined to be U.S. citizens, were released on $5,000 bond.

Fraud involving duplicate claims appears to be relatively rare. The publications in the North

Carolina case may have been unaware of the Comprehensive Loss Underwriting Exchange, or CLUE

, which allows property and auto warranties to track overlapping or duplicate claims for the past seven years.
