MS Amlin, the Lloyd’s global re/insurer, announced the opening of an Austr
alian branch office in Sydney, subject to Lloyd’s approval.
Leading the branch office is Matt Botfield who has been named head of Australia
and New Zealand. The office will be a branch of MS Amlin’s Asia Pacific Reinsu
rance business, MS Amlin Pacific Pte.Ltd.

mlin from Aon Reinsurance China, where he was chief operating officer for G
reater China and CEO of Alternate Insurance Authority Hong Kong, a role he held since 2016. Prior to this, Botfield spent 14 yea
rs at Aon Benfield, in several senior roles, including head of Property Australia and New Zealand.

nventional reinsurance structures as well as via its Phoenix ILS offering.
A growing proportion of risks written by the Asia Pacific team stem from Australia and New Zealand. As part of its growth strategy, the
company is setting up a branch office to give it on-the-ground presence and impact.
Botfield will support the existing client portfolio in Australia and New
Zealand and ongoing broker relationships managed by the Asia-Pacific team in Singapore. As well as overseeing new busin
ss development to help further facilitate growth, he will utilize MS Amlin’s broader underwriting capabilities to develop solutions for clien
ts in the region.
The operations in Australia will be accretive and not disruptive to the current portfolio written from London, the company said.
