Samsung has established itself as a leader in the foldable smartphone business, but pressure from rivals could keep the company from sitting still.
With such new products, foldable smartphone models like the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 still have quite high prices. To meet consumer demand, Samsung is planning to launch a cheaper version, expected to be called the Galaxy Z Flip FE, in 2025.
Will there be a cheap version of the Galaxy Z Flip next year?
According to information from display analyst Ross Young, Samsung is researching a clamshell foldable smartphone. The product may be called Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE and is expected to bring more attractive features than the Galaxy Z Flip 7.
Samsung’s FE (Fan Edition) brand typically refers to more practical, lower-priced versions of its premium smartphones. The lower price point is often achieved by changing materials and tweaking some features like the camera. Young said the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE’s display could be similar to the Flip 7, but the processor and camera could be different.
At the moment, details about the features cut between the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE and the Galaxy Z Flip 7 have not been announced. Previous leaks have said that the Galaxy Z Flip FE could be released simultaneously with other Samsung foldable smartphones in the second half of 2025 and could be equipped with the Exynos 2400 chip.
The product has reduced hardware to reduce costs.
Young also revealed that Samsung is working on a Galaxy Z Fold 7 SE (Special Edition), similar to the Galaxy Z Fold SE (known as the Z Fold 6 SE). However, if you were expecting the Galaxy Z Fold 7 to carry over some design cues from the Galaxy Z Fold SE, you may be disappointed as the analyst has indicated that this will not be the case.
With the recent launch of the Galaxy Z Fold SE, fans will have to wait a long time to see the next foldable Special Edition. However, its appearance promises to bring a lot of interesting things to Samsung users.
Expanding Samsung's foldable lineup with the SE and FE models will create more options for customers, from high-end products to more affordable versions, making it easier for consumers to find the right product for their needs and budget.
