While speculations about the iPhone 17 continue to grow, new information about the iPhone 18 series expected to launch in 2026 has been revealed.
The latest report from analyst Ming-chi Kuo said that the top-end iPhone 18 model is expected to feature a camera with variable aperture - a technology that Samsung first introduced on the Galaxy S9 series in 2018.
Variable aperture technology first appeared on the Galaxy S9 series.
This technology was later adopted by many other brands such as Huawei, OPPO and Xiaomi. Currently, Huawei's latest high-end smartphones and the HONOR Magic 7 series have also integrated this feature.
According to Kuo’s report, introducing a variable aperture camera will significantly improve the user’s photography experience. Most smartphones today use a fixed aperture, which makes them work well in some lighting conditions but not in others. A variable aperture will allow the camera to adjust the amount of light entering, improving the ability to take photos in different lighting conditions.
After nearly 10 years, Apple was able to implement this feature.
Additionally, Kuo said Sunny Optical will be the primary supplier of shutters, while Luxshare will be a secondary supplier and will also provide the second variable aperture lens after Largan Precision. Sunny Optical has decades of experience designing and manufacturing variable aperture cameras for Android device makers.
There have been many rumors about Apple launching an iPhone with a variable aperture, but it depends on Apple's decision on whether this technology will come to the iPhone next year or have to wait until the iPhone 18 launched in 2026.
