According to professional assessments, the camera on the iPhone 16 Pro Max is only fourth in the world, behind many high-end smartphones.
After the launch of the iPhone 16 generation, testing of their various features and components was conducted. One of the most important tests was the camera system of the iPhone 16 Pro Max.

According to DxOMark's test on Monday, the iPhone 16 Pro Max scored a total of 157 points, ranking fourth globally.
The high-end smartphone ranked behind the Huawei Pura 70 Ultra (163 points), Google Pixel 9 Pro XL (158 points) and Honor Magic6 Pro (158 points).
The product also ranked 4th in the Ultra-Premium ranking for smartphones worth more than 800 USD (about 19.6 million VND).
In the smaller categories, the iPhone 16 Pro Max scored 159 — the highest in the video test. It “delivered exceptional results”
with consistent exposure and color accuracy across a wide range of conditions, and had the best balance of texture and noise.

Pro-grade video features also impress, including ProRes profiles in Log and HDR modes, and a new 120fps 4K mode.
In addition to “top-notch overall video quality,” the iPhone 16 Pro Max also received praise for its color performance, with “bright and vivid” images and customizable image colors.
Additionally, zero shutter lag was also praised.
The only “downside” of the camera is the zoom function, which now uses a Tetraprism lens system to increase the zoom.
The results are inconsistent between the 2x zoom range and the 5x zoom range, with images “losing some detail”.
This is likely because there are two different sensors used at each zoom level.
At 2x zoom, the camera uses a 12MP crop of the 48MP Fusion camera, while at 5x zoom, the Telephoto camera is used.
This year, Apple devices continue to receive quite high DXO scores. Previously, in 2023, the iPhone 15 Pro Max had the second best camera system in the world with a score of 154.
